Part-III

Why Social Reform Is Necessary For Economic Reform ?

The socialists of India are trying to apply the economic interpretation of Europe that the man is an economic creature whose activities and aspirations are bound by economic fact that, property is the only source of power and that's why equalization of property can lead to economic reforms. Therefore, the equalization of property should be given priority over all other reforms.

Then babasaheb said,no student of human society can accept that economic power is the only kind of power.Because, social status of individual often becomes a source of power and authority. Which can be cleared by the mahatma's sway over the common man that many millionaires in India obey mahatmas, sadhus and fakirs.

So, we can say that, Religion is the actual source of power, which also can understand from the history of india that the priest holds a sway over the common man even grater than the magistrate.

Religion is the source of power, this can also be seen in the other parts of the world.Let's consider the example of Rome,in which there were two classes first one was patrician and second one was plebians, where patrician had dominance over plebians in all field. So,plebians had fought for their share in Rome Republic and wanted their own consul, separated from patrician.

Now, after sometime election was held and plebians won the election so,they had a chance to get their own seprate consul. But they did not get thier consul because of a custom, and that custom was "no offical could enter upon the duties of his office unless the Oracle of Delphi (The priests who were in charge of the temple of the goddess of Delphi were all Patricians) declared that he was acceptable to the goddess".so,acoording to the oracle that elected consul of Plebians was not acceptable to goddess.

As Plebians also believed in this custom so,they agreed to it and this is how they cheated for thier political right.   This clearly shows that Religion is the actual source of power.

Babasaheb said "I do not think that  equalization of property is the only real reform and it should given first prefrence than every thing else".Now question to socialists that can they bring economic reform without reform in the social order.Socialists of India do not consider this question.

As,one of the socialist wrote the letter to one of the babasaheb's friend,in which he said,"I do not believe that we can build a free society in India as long as this ill-treatment and oppression by one class continues with the other.  Being a socialist, essentially I believe in complete equality in the treatment of different classes and groups.I think socialism provides the only true solution to this as well as other problems""

Is it enough to say that"I believe in perfect equality in the treatment of the various classes ? "

If the socialists of India bring a revolution for equalization of property, then the men of the large sections of the society will not join the revolution for equalization of property because they know that after the revolution is achieved they will not be treated equally. And The discrimination on the basis of caste and creed will remain as it is.

Therefore, the socialists of India have to be assured, moving from a very deep foundation, that is, the mental attitude of the compatriots towards each other in the spirit of personal equality and fraternity.

If socialists want to make socialism a definite reality, they must accept that the problem of social reform is fundamental and there is no way for them to escape it.

Without removing this present social system of India, you cannot achieve this revolution or another way to say that whatever direction you turn, caste is the monster that comes in your way.Unless you kill this monster, you cannot bring political reforms or economic reforms.
